Trigger & Where Found
|
What could generate the Trigger?
|
Example:
|
Configuration Trigger
|
A Configuration trigger is a bug or defect that occurs
after the user has attempted to configure with the games or programs settings,
usually to allow the game or program to run at a higher performance level for
a better-looking environment, user interface or version.
|
For example, if the player of COD was trying to change the
brightness on the screen and it failed, then that would be a configuration
trigger.
|
Start-up Trigger
|
A start up trigger is a bug that can occur during the
initial menu of a game, the start-up screen, loading screen or any form of
transition from the boot to the gameplay of a game, this includes any if all
graphical errors and frame drops. Usually during downloads or loading screens
for scenes and menus.
|
An example of this would be when I tried to open a game
called SMITE and the beginning screen had no colour as an error.
|
Exception Trigger
|
Exception triggers can always be unexpected errors, for
they are bugs that are usually put in ln place by the designers/coders of the
game. Their purpose is usually to restrict prohibited content or information
from or about the game to all players.
|
For example, if there’s a new patch out for the game the
developers might decide to take down the servers for a few hours to patch in
the updates, therefore not allowing the players to play online for a while.
|
Stress Trigger
|
The stress trigger caused by over capping limiters built
into the game or through intense pressure on a system, such as either
hardware or software. Stress triggers slows the game down and decreases total
performance on both gameplay and background stats. If too many of these
occur, then permeant speed deficiency will be very apparent.
|
Mashing too many buttons in a fighting game might cause a
stress trigger, as the game may not be able to handle the immense rate
information that is being entered. Another example would be if you used up
all the memory available within a game, this would force you to play with
saving or to delete old save data.
|
Normal Trigger
|
This is the most common type of trigger and occurs when
the game is playing normally.
|
Character not shooting at the right place, e.g. Lego clip
in lesson.
|
Restart Trigger
|
A restart trigger as the name suggests is during the reset
of a game, level or any of the sort. When a restart trigger occurs, it may
cause the game to crash and corrupt the save files that have been
placed. Usually players are warned
before leaving a level to save the game, otherwise all progress will be lost.
|
An example of this would be if you finished a level and
then turned off your console during the saving process. This would cause
saved file corruption and loss of data.
