Task 1D

Phase
Description
Phase of Testing: (Number)
Preparation
The preparation phase is important, as this is where a lead Tester and a Testing plan will be established.
1
Alpha
An alpha is the first stage of testing, sometimes can be offered as a paid version of the unfinished game for community and player feedback. At this stage, they must make sure they meet the original testing Alpha stage requirements they planned during the preparation. Finding defects and bugs should be very common in the alpha as it is only the beginning.
2
Beta
This phase is very similar to the Alpha phase in terms of sticking to the prep plan and not changing any artwork or coding. The external part of this phase is usually simple defect reports and loading testing from testers. Place holder assets will be used here for item testing and object functionality. A placeholder asset is a temporary asset used where a real asset will be later. "While the artists are designing the platinum armour model, we'll use the steel armour model as a placeholder asset.
3
Gold
The Gold testing phase happens right after the Beta and it involves more bug patching/to the highest standards possibly reachable within the time frame. In this stage, the following is completed:
·         All severity 1 bugs fixed
·         90% severity 2 bugs fixed
·         85% severity 3 bugs fixed
·         Performance of game matches release expectations
When new problematic bugs are issued they are quickly dealt with and new version of the game will be released.
4
Certification
Reaching the release date of the game, the product goes through the certification stage, which is where they identify the games suitable age rating along with confirming the quality of the game with third party members.
5
